Immoral Processes of In-Vitro-Fertilization:
In-Vitro-Fertilization (IVF) is a method of assisted reproduction in which a man’s sperm and a woman’s eggs are combined outside of the body in a laboratory dish. There are many bioethical issues involved on the topic of IVF. People believe the process is immoral due to many factors. A common way that IVF is performed is planting three embryos in the mother. They first make sure that the husband’s sperm is in the wife’s egg. After this, they freeze the leftover eggs for future implantation. This procedure raises many eyebrows and people view this as a very immoral act, as Dr. James Dobson stated, “It’s immoral to freeze a live human being.” Not only does freezing the embryo raise questions on if IVF is a safe and moral act; but it also brings up the issue as to what we do with the left over embryos. In some cases the parents only want two children, and more than two embryos achieve pregnancy, one of the only choices is to then kill off the leftover fertilized egg. The issue involving what to do with leftover embryos is a big question in the future of IVF.

Religion:
One of the main reasons why humans say IVF is immoral is related to religion. In-Vitro-Fertilization fosters the mindset that every couple has the “right” to have a baby rather than the privilege granted by God. This process gives scientists a “God-like” figure, as they have the ability to choose how many children they want to have. Even the top religious figures are believe that IVF is immoral, as Pope Pius XII said,” They take the Lord’s work into their own hands.” Many Christians say the process of IVF is immoral because the procedure is controlled. It’s difficult to see if they are leaving anything to God in having a child.

Adultery:
Another serious moral issue involves using donor sperm or donor eggs to achieve pregnancy. Children are given as a blessing from god to a husband and wife in marriage and using donor sperm and eggs is considered as an act of adultery. Adultery is one of the biggest sins a Christian can perform; this is a major factor as to the reason religious followers are opposed to IVF. Another relating factor to adultery is the issue involving unmarried woman seeking pregnancy. They must use donor sperm, but since no physical contact between the woman and the donor so there isn’t anything immoral about achieving pregnancy this way. Overall the method of IVF is viewed as immoral, there are too many bioethical issues that oppose the idea.
